West Village: Bosie Tea Parlor

For our “two years in a relationship” anniversary, J and I visited the Bosie Tea Parlor yesterday in order to celebrate. Feeling a little adventurous, we decided to make reservations for their Chef’s Tea Service, which requires a 48 hour notice to prepare everything. The tea service included everything shown in the photos below. Not pictured are the two pots of tea that we could also choose, each holding approximately four cups of tea.

top tier: scones, which came with clotted cream and raspberry jam

middle tier: Duck breast with roasted plums canapés

bottom tier: Smoked salmon with capers and Quail egg with black truffle canapés

The scones were light, fluffy and everything that a scone should be without being too rich–like the ones you can find at Starbucks. The duck breast canapés were my favorite, although  the smoked salmon canapés came in a close second. The little touch of lemon zest that they added made all of the difference. I didn’t try any of the quail egg canapés, but J seemed to enjoy those quite a bit as well.

Mini tea cakes: (L-R) Chocolate with candied oranges, Lemon, Matcha green tea, Vanilla

Macarons: (counterclockwise) White truffle, Five Different Single Origin Chocolates,

Island White Tea: coconut & peach and Aged Aceto Balsamico (25 year)

We sampled the different tea cakes, and agreed that the lemon was our favorite, although all of them tasted wonderful. Both the chocolate and lemon tea cakes were very moist, and while the matcha green tea and vanilla cakes were a little on the dry side, the flavor and garnishes made up for that. The macarons were very interesting. While their shells weren’t as fluffy as some of the other macarons I’ve seen and tasted, the filling within each of them was very flavorful. My favorite would actually have to be the aged balsamic macaron– the flavor was smoky and savory. Definitely and interesting way to end the dessert tray.

The tea service also included our choice of two pastries from the display case, along with two glasses of Perrier-Jouët Brut Champagne (not shown).

Ispahan: Rose Macaron, Rose Butter-cream, Lychee, Fresh Raspberry

I really loved how smooth and light this giant macaron was. The rose flavor was fresh, the raspberries were wonderfully in season, and the overall taste was a delightful dream.

Lemon Tart: Sweet Dough, Lemon Cream and Candied Pecans

The lemon tart contained the perfect amount of tartness while still having a smooth texture, without the awkward dairy aftertaste. The meringue was sweet without taking presidence in the overall flavor.

.Thoughts: We were treated wonderfully, and the tea was light and refreshing despite the hot day (J chose from a selection of white teas, and I chose from a selection of green teas). For anyone who hasn’t experienced this lovely tea parlor, I encourage everyone to give it a try. Overall this was a beautiful and tranquil experience.
